Count
Jim Caviezel can't stop preaching about religion, the Bible and the Pope on the set of The Count of Monte Cristo in Ireland. The movie is said to be overbudget, but that's the least of director Kevin Reynolds' problems. Seems Caviezel was pushed on Reynolds by studio execs who think he's the next hot thang. Now, J.C., who was also in Frequency and The Thin Red Line, apparently is obsessed with wrapping filming so he can visit Medjugorje, where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared in visions.
CAVIEZEL SET FOR 'THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO'
Spyglass Entertainment has signed Jim Caviezel to play the lead in the feature THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. DAILY VARIETY reported that with Caviezel committed, the picture is being prepped to begin shooting in Dublin and the southeast coast of Ireland in July. No director or other actors have yet been signed but talks are currently underway.
The screenplay was written by Jay Wolpert, based on the Alexander Dumas novel.
Spyglass is financing the entire production and will also own the negative. Disney has the rights to distribute domestically and in several international territories. Spyglass will distribute to the rest of the world.
Caviezel appears next in New Line Cinema's FREQUENCY opposite Dennis Quaid, to be released later this month. Later in the year, he will appear in PAY IT FORWARD, with Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt and Haley Joel Osment. He also stars in the William Bindley-helmed indie feature MADISON, about hydroplane boat-racing in the 1970s. Sources say that the actor was one of the top choices for the event film PEARL HARBOR before Ben Affleck committed to the project.
